Major Cardamom growing countries in the world are Guatemala, India, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, El Salvador, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Papua New Guinea.
Major Cardamom growing states in India are Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu
Fruits are the most economically important part of Cardamom
Cardamom originates from mountainous forests and can be grown in a variety of soils ranging from forest loam to quartz gravels.
The Cardamom crop thrives well in regions which receive a well-distributed annual rainfall of 1500-2500 mm.
It requires a mean temperature of 15°C to 35°C and 600-1200 m above MSL.
Cardamom grows luxuriantly in forest loam soils, which are generally acidic in nature with a pH range of 5.5-6.5.
