Vach is also called as Vacha, Calamus and Sweet Flag
It is found in South East Asia and is native to the Himalayas and Western Ghats
Vach is distributed well in the tropics and subtropics
It grows readily in marshy areas
Vach is found widely in the wild on the margins of ponds and rivers in cooler parts of the world
Rhizomes are the economically important part of Vach
Benefits of Vach:
Vach is a perennial herb growing upto 4 feet tall
A tuft of leaves arise from its rhizomes
Leaves are flat with smooth margins and parallel veins with slightly red margins
Inflorescence is cylindrical spadix about 2-4 inches long.it is covered with tiny greenish yellow flowers in rhombus pattern
Bloom starts late in spring and continues till early summer
Roots are rhizomes which are sparingly branched
Tuft of leaves occur at regular intervals on rhizome
Propagation of Vach is through rhizomes
