Kalmegh is commonly known as Creat or Green Chireta
It is native to India and Sri Lanka and widely cultivated in Southern and South eastern Asia.
The species is distributed in tropical Asian countries, often in isolated patches
Andrographolide is the major constituent extracted from the leaves of the plant and is a bicyclic diterpenoid lactone.
The whole Kalmegh plant is economically important

Kalmegh grows well in moist and shaded places though it prefers sunny places
It is annual herbaceous plant and grows erect to the height of 50-110 cm
Its stem is dark green colored, quadrangular, with longitudinal furrows and wigs on the angles of the younger parts.
Leaves are glabrous broad, lanceloate and pinnate
Flowers are white coloured and small with rose purple spots borne on axillary racemes.
Kalmegh fruits are linear oblong capsules with acute at both ends, having numerous seeds
No major challenges have reported, though Kalmegh is susceptible to water stress
