Amla is commonly known as Indian Gooseberry, Amlaki or Amalaka
It is a medium size deciduous plant, growing to a height of 8-18 m.
It has a crooked trunk and spreading branches.
Flowers are yellow greenish in color while its fruit is spherical pale yellow with six furrows.
Amla is propagated through seeds. It starts bearing fruits in seven years from the day of planting.
Amla is widely cultivated in tropical parts of India and on the hill slopes up to heights of 2000m.
Commercially it is cultivated in Uttar Pradesh, Tamil nadu, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra
