Pepper Mint is a strongly aromatic perennial herb of the mint family.
Major Pepper Mint producing countries are Morocco, Argentina, Spain and Georgia.
World production of Pepper Mint was 92,296 tones, led by Morocco with 92% of the world production
In India, Pepper Mint is cultivated in Western Uttar Pradesh (Tarai Belt), Jammu Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab States with annual production of 20000-22000 tons of oil.
Leaves are the most economically important part of Pepper Mint and are used for the extraction of oil
Pepper Mint grows well in nearly all temperate climates.
The mean temperature between 20°C - 40°C during major part of the growing period and rainfall between 100-110 cm is ideal for its growth.
Well drained loam or sandy loam soils rich in organic matter having pH between 6 and 8.2 are ideally suited for the cultivation of Pepper Mint
Pepper Mint can also be cultivated on both red and black soil. In case of acidic soil having pH less than 5.5, liming is recommended.
